·E.B. Lewis has illustrated and/or written over 60 books and has won several Coretta Scott King Illustrator Awards, ALA Notable Book awards, and other honors including the Caldecott Honor for Coming on Home Soon, written by Jacqueline Woodson. His fine art is collected and displayed in galleries across the nation. Lewis is a master at identifying the emotion and story in text and showing it in the illustration. Lewis taught art in public school for twelve years, continues to teach at the University of Arts in Philadelphia, and privately mentors illustration students. No matter what level of mastery an artist has achieved, Lewis can help to push the craft higher.
·Matt Faulkner, a critically acclaimed author and illustrator, has created over 37 books for children and young adults. Recently his picture book, A Taste of Colored Water, was selected by the School Library Journal for its list of powerful books that encourage kids and parents to discuss diversity. The San Francisco Chronicle called his new graphic novel Gaijin: American Prisoner of War "Superb!”. Matt has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in illustration, character design and visual storytelling at both the Art Academy University/San Francisco and the College for Creative Studies/Detroit. He lives with his wife, author and librarian Kris Remenar, their two kids and two cats in the lower right hand corner of Michigan.
Leslie Helakoski is the co-regional advisor for Michigan SCBWI and the author of eight picture books including Michigan Reads winners Big Chickens and Woolbur. Her books, known for their word play and humor, have won acclaim from Junior Library Guild and starred reviews in Kirkus and award nominations in over 20 states. She has illustrated her three most recent books, including Doggone Feet! (a best math choice by Scholastic Magazine) and her newest release, Big Pigs. She has two new picture books in development.
