Scholarships for the SCBWI-MI Spring 2023 Conference

(For more information about the Spring Conference click HERE)

The Equity and Inclusion Scholarship

To affirm the need for increased representation in the children’s and YA book industry, we are offering a full scholarship to the 2023 SCBWI MI Spring Conference. The scholarship is open to a current SCBWI Michigan member or not yet-member for the cost of tuition to the conference.

This scholarship will be awarded to an attendee who identifies as a member of a community that has been traditionally marginalized by the publishing industry as shown in this description by We Need Diverse Books: Our Definition of Diversity: We recognize all diverse experiences, including (but not limited to) LGBTQIA, Native, people of color, gender diversity, people with disabilities*, and ethnic, cultural, and religious minorities.

*We subscribe to a broad definition of disability, which includes but is not limited to physical, sensory, cognitive, intellectual, or developmental disabilities, chronic conditions, and mental illnesses (this may also include addiction). Furthermore, we subscribe to a social model of disability, which presents disability as created by barriers in the social environment, due to lack of equal access, stereotyping, and other forms of marginalization.
The First Timer Scholarship

SCBWI-MI is thrilled to welcome everyone to our first in-person conference since 2020! We realize that due to the pandemic, many of our newer members have not experienced an IN-PERSON conference hosted by our kidlit community. The First Timer Scholarship offers a full conference registration to a member who has not yet attended a SCBWI-MI in-person conference.

For both scholarships:
